EQUIPMENT

The Paisano Volunteer Fire Department is a small volunteer department that has basic fire suppression capabilities.  Currently the department has total of 4 department vehicles.  The department has 2-300 gallon brus trucks  to use for fire fighting and traffic control at accident scenes.   We are happy to announce that the department was awarded a Texas Forestry Service Grant in the amount of $165,000.   This grant will be used to build a new brush truck to replace a third brush truck that was sold due to old age, and was never replaced.  The department must match 5% of the $165,000, total as part of the grant requirements.  The brush truck is going to be custom built to our department's specification, and we hope to take delivery of our new truck within the next few months.

The department also has 1 - First Response/Command vehicle that is used by the Chief for  not only command duties, but also for EMS response purposes.  Our EMS First Response unit carries basic supplies for bandaging and bleeding control, the ability to treat minor burns and insect stings, heat and cold related injuries, and diabetic emergencies, along with other emergencies.  It also carries on-board supplies of oxygen, BVM's and an AED that is capable of treating cardiac arrests in the field.  

 The department now also has an SUV devoted to traffic control.  This Ford Expedition, which served as the Fire Chief's old Command Vehicle has be repurposed to serve as the departments Traffic Control Vehicle.  It carries traffic cones, LED road flares, telescoping scene/work lights, LED traffic wands for firefighters to use during traffic control, along with high visibility LED traffic vests for firefighter safety.  We continue to add safety equipment to this unit, not only for the safety of our firefighters, but also for the public that we serve.

Our department is also proud to announce the additions of a battery operated "Jaws of Life" Rescue tool, better known as a "Combi-tool."  We have been trying to add this lifesaving piece of equipment for a very long time, but due to the price of this tool, $14,000+, we have had to do without.  Thankfully, through a Rescue and Equipment grant from Texas Forest Service for $25,000, we have been able to finally purchase this lifesaving tool.  The Combi-tool allows use to perform vehicle extrications in the field, without having to wait on other departments to arrive with extrication equipment.  We can now start the steps of extricating, or removing patients from crushed vehicles, as soon as we arrive on scene.  This allows us to start critical care in a much more timely manner.  If you would like to see our new Combi-Tool, please let us know, and we would be happy to arrange a demonstration.
